Advocacy

The fifty-plus organizations within the Coalition are equipping students and adults with the skills, resources and confidence they need to make informed decisions about their future – and to keep them within the borders of New Mexico to aid the state’s families, employers, and economy. While our vision is bold, limited resources and funding pose challenges to program development and sustainability.

The Coalition is concerned about shrinking state funding for programs that encourage career exploration that allow students, young people and adults to LEARN ABOUT WORK THROUGH WORK.  Through our advocacy efforts, we work together to urge our policy-makers to fully fund our collective priorities, as they represent an equitable investment to the future of New Mexico’s workforce.

For the 2025 New Mexico Legislative Session, we are advocating that our legislators:

•    Include $1.2 million to DWS to expand its pre-apprenticeship program equitably throughout the state
•    Continued/increased funding for PED Career Technical Education (CTE)
•    Provide $15 million a year for 3 years for PED Summer Enrichment Program
•    Provide $30.9 million of continued funding for PED Innovation Zones
•    Reinstate the Give Back Program for funding film programs
